PooPrints – Making Sure Dog Owners Clean Up

clean up after your petsIsn’t it so annoying when you come across dog poop on the ground that hasn’t been picked up by the dog owner. It gives all of us dog owners a bad reputation. We’ve even been blamed by a person on the street for not picking up dog poop when it didn’t come from our own dog (not to mention there’s no way our 18 lb dog could have made such a huge poop).

Well PooPrints by BioPet Vet Lab has come up with a DNA test to determine who left that poop behind and send them a fine. It’s a new twist on that article you might have read about in 2013: “Town Mails Dog Poop Back To Negligent Owners In Spain“.

How Does it Work?

pooprintsThe PooPrints sends swabs to be swiped inside of mouth of every dog using the public green space. The swab collects the DNA of the dog and is then sent back to the PooPrints labs where a record of the dog it belongs to is kept in the DNA World Pet Registry.

If park keepers find dog waste left behind, they can send a sample to PooPrints which will test it and match it to a swab. “The DNA is extracted from the dog waste and matches are run every day to find out who the ‘poop-eterators’ are,” explained Mike Stone, a distributor for PooPrints. The cost of the test runs around $75 and is usually passed along to the pet owner in the form of a fine.

Typically the cost of the swabs and registration of the dog, is paid for by the dog owners who are using the dog park in the form of a membership or other fee. PooPrints already serves around 900 residential communities nationwide.

PooPrints by BioPet Vet Lab is an eco-friendly DNA dog waste management program for apartment, condominium and HOA management. PooPrints was invented at BioPet Vet Lab to help keep managed communities and parks clean and green. BioPet has been a full service canine genetic research laboratory since 2008, dedicated to animal health.

EzyDog – Award Winning Active Dog Products

EzyDog Cujo

The Cujo Leash

We fell in love with EzyDog when we saw their leashes. From just looking at their products, you can see that they build their dog products based on sports technology!

We also love that they incorporated zero shock technology into their leashes as we’ve all experienced that horrible jerk at the spotting of a squirrel. EzyDog also has come up with some other great leash variations from the coupler (2 dogs on one leash) to the multi-function vario.
We got the opportunity to interview EzyDog to get more of an inside look of their company and inspirations:

Tell us about EzyDog and how the company got started.

Brothers, Phil and Luke Hatcher, from Australia originally started out in the water sports industry. At the same time, John Hatcher (not related) was working for a major water-ski manufacturer in the USA. Sharing the same last name in the same small industry eventually got them introduced. Phil, Luke and John’s experience in this industry and love of dogs sparked the idea to combine the best of both worlds, which inspired the original shock absorbing leash – the Cujo.

EzyDog Neo Collar

EzyDog Neo Collar

They saw that materials from the water sports world work well for the dog market. For instance, neoprene is a very durable material that does not absorb oils so it does not get stinky like a typical nylon collar. The Cujo leash was the first product to be introduced to the pet industry and started what would eventually become EzyDog.

EzyDog officially began about 10 years ago and has developed into a highly technical, full line of dog products that focus on function, durability and unique designs. The focus has been to enhance the outdoor experience with our dogs.

EzyDog Convert Harness

Convert Harness

Tell us more about the materials used to make EzyDog products?

We make our own webbing, which allows us to more closely monitor the consistency and quality. We end up with a webbing that is super soft and extremely strong and durable. We use materials such as Neoprene for padded comfort, easy to clean and absorbs less stink than traditional materials. We also use EVA to form to the dog’s body for truly a custom fit. These “outside the box materials” make a superior product.

Summit Backpack

Summit Backpack

What are your most popular products?

Our Chest Plate and Quick Fit Harnesses along with our shock absorbing leashes are really popular. The combination of these with your pup can truly transform your walking/running experience. Our DFD (Doggy Floatation Device) and Summit Backpack continue to be popular as well. We attribute these items popularity with the ease of use and the problem solving features these items provide.

Some people might assume your products are only for large &/or tough dogs ?

While our active look may appear to cater to the medium and larger breeds, we actually make products for all shapes and sizes of dogs. The Sparky, as well as, our Lite range of leashes, use clips and webbing widths more appropriate for the smaller dogs.

EzyDog Vario Leash

This is also true of our collars and harnesses. We even have a Micro line of Life Vests. The Sparky weighs 3.9 oz while the Cujo (40 inch) weighs 6.0 oz. We do offer our Soft Trainer Leash, Vario 4 and Vario 6 leashes, as well as, couplers available in the Lite versions. Sometimes the little guys are the hardest to control and they need our products most!

Bandana Bowls for Dogs – So Clever!

With the temperatures heating up, it’s time to make sure we all keep hydrated and the Bandana Bowl by Pawabunda is one clever new invention to help out your dog!

Bandana Bowl

Bandana Bowl – Blue

Imagine you’re out on a walk with your dog and it’s hot out. You’ve probably got a bottle of water for yourself, but it’s a bit cumbersome to share it with your dog.

The Bandana Bowl is a scarf (aka bandana) and bowl in one. Your dog can wear this scarf/bandana and when it’s time for a drink, take it off and it turns into a bowl. The bowl is water proof! We’ve tested this ourselves and also saw it demoed at the Global Pet expo. It really doesn’t leak.

If you think your dog is really hot, you can also pour water on the bandana and put it back on around his neck to keep your dog cool.

Bandana Bowl

Bandana Bowl – pink

We love it because it’s easy, very light weight and it’s one less thing you have to carry because your dog is now carrying his own bowl.

They come in both blue and pink and in 3 sizes (S,M,L). Here’s our link to purchase on Amazon if you’re interested in getting one for the summer.
