Dirty Dog Doormat – Our Dog Loves It!

Dog Gone Smart

I LOVE my Dirty Dog Doormat! – Kobi

This year during the Global Pet Expo, we came across the brand Dog Gone Smart. First we fell in love with their Dog Gone Smart Repelz-It Dog Jackets, which we highlighted in our Global Pet Expo review.

Then one of their super nice reps, Jaimee, came up to us and told us about their Dirty Dog Doormats, which apparently soaks up to 7 times its weight in mud and water as well as dries 5x faster than ordinary door mats.

Dirty_Dog_DoormatDog Gone Smart was so kind to send us out one to test. Clearly, we’re not a scientific lab, but the Dirty Dog Doormat was very absorbent and dried really fast. It’s plush, velvety soft and has a non-skid backing to help it stay in place (if your dog isn’t digging in it).

What we didn’t expect is that our dog Kobi LOVED this doormat so much that we’ve replaced it as his full time dog bed – a delightful surprise!

Dirty Dog Doormat

It’s just so comfy!

Dog Gone Smart doesn’t promote this product as a dog bed, but our dog would highly recommend it as something super fabulous and comfortable to lay on. It is very soft, but also durable. Often Kobi “digs on it” until it’s in that perfect place for him to cuddle on. Surprisingly he’s liked this doormat more than some of the plush beds we’ve tested.

We’re not sure if this says something more about our dog than the Dirty Dog Doormat, but regardless, our dog gives the Dirty Dog Doormat a huge thumbs (or shall we say paws) up!

The Dirty Dog Doormat by Dog Gone Smart comes in various sizes and colors: brown, maroon and khaki.

Paws up for PL360 – Pet Lovers Everywhere

PL 360We’ve recently been testing PL360 and have been quite pleased with the results. PL360 creates natural cleaning products for pet owners. Their product line includes shampoos, grooming wipes, natural household cleaners and plant-based stain and odor removers. They sent us their “greatest hits” to test and we did a giveaway to enlist a few Dogsized fans to help us test out the products too.

PL360 Multi Surface Cleaner (we love it)

PL 360 multi_surface_cleanerThis cleaner (in citrus scent) uses a powerful plant-based formula that contains no ammonia, bleach, phosphates, phthalates or sulfates. It’s dermatologist tested, non allergenic and made in the U.S.

This was our favorite product. Why? It’s the best cleaner we’ve ever used on our glass cook-top and we’ve tried loads of cleaning products on it! We were pleasantly surprised by it’s performance. Who knew a plant-based formula could work so well on the glass cook-top! It also performed well cleaning various other surfaces (e.g. counter tops).

PL360 Grooming Wipes

PL 360 grooming_wipesThese mandarin scented grooming wipes are made with plant-based ingredients. They contain no parabens, sulfates, phthalates, toxins, lanolin, soap or alcohol.

As a dog owner, grooming wipes are super handy. We used these to clean off our dog’s paws, nose, ears and everywhere else. They worked great. Our dog has allergies and we were happy he didn’t have any issues with these wipes. The scent is gentle – not overwhelming.

PL360 Odor Neutralizing Carpet Powder

Winner - Cody!

Dogsized fan, Mary Lynn and her dog Cody tested the PL360 Odor Neutralizing Carpet Powder. Here’s what she said:

“Yes, it works well. It doesn’t have that overwhelming chemical smell that most carpet powders seem to have and it did a great job of eliminating dog odors.”

PL360 Itch Relief Shampoo

Winner - Hattie!PL 360 itch_relief_shampoo

Dogsized fan, Donna and her dog Hattie tested the PL360 Itch Relief Shampoo. Here’s what she said:

“Yes, its great. Hattie is a combo of two high allergy dogs and she was so much less itchy after her bath. It’s an excellent dog shampoo.”

PL360 Multi Surface Cleaning Wipes

PL 360 multi_surface_cleaning_wipesThese cleaning wipes use a powerful plant-based formula that contains no ammonia, bleach, phosphates, phthalates or sulfates. Plus, they’re also fragrance free.

We love using cleaning wipes and typically use Lysol cleaning wipes. At first we were a bit skeptical of a planted based cleaning product, but PL360 passed the test. They worked just as well as the Lysol wipes, plus we didn’t mind using them without gloves (we usually use gloves when handling the Lysol cleaning wipes).

PL360 was created in May 2015 when PawGanics and Pet Labs 360 merged together to become a unified pet health and wellness brand. Before the merger, PawGanics made pet/people/earth-friendly cleaning and grooming products. PetLabs360 was founded by Kevin Schwartz as a result of his search for nutritional supplements to help prevent the ailments—arthritis, allergies and digestive disorders—that plague modern-day pets. When the best nutrients he could find for his dog were spinoffs of products for humans, he started his own business, PetLabs360.

Dog Teeth Cleaning – Our Dog’s First Experience

Kobi - Dog Teeth Cleaning

Kobi needs a dental exam

Our dog, Kobi, is a 6 year old Havanese and while we have been fairly good about brushing his teeth, we recently noticed they were getting a bit too dirty. At Kobi’s annual pet exam the veterinarian recommended we consider getting his teeth cleaned. Then about a week later, we found a chip of his tooth on the floor. That was the trigger – Kobi needed a dental exam asap!

We were really worried about the anesthesia and had heard about anesthesia-free dental cleanings (we even wrote an article about them). We did further research on anesthesia-free dog teeth cleaning, as well as those with anesthesia. One of the vets we really respect, Dr. Andy Roark, did a You Tube video recommending dog teeth cleaning with anesthesia. It is also the recommended procedure by the American Veterinary Dental College.

We decided Kobi’s long term health was more important than the risk of the anesthesia. We called up our vet, Dr. Timi Lee at Tribeca Soho Animal Hospital. As she had done a great job with Kobi’s neutering procedure, we felt safe with her as the right vet for the job.

How Did the Dog Teeth Cleaning Go?

The procedure consisted of:

  • A pre-anesthetic exam and diagnostic lab tests
  • Dental X-Rays
  • Professional scaling – this removes plaque and tartar build-up
  • Full cleaning under the gum-line – it’s where periodontal disease lurks
  • Polishing – this leaves a completely smooth surface of the tooth, which helps discourage plaque and bacteria from adhering to the teeth

We also learned that sometimes there is the option of having a root canal done, thus avoiding extracting the teeth. We were fortunate Kobi’s teeth were in pretty good condition. No teeth needed to be pulled or have root canal. The tooth that was chipped was bonded.

Post Procedure Happy, Clean Teeth:

After: Right Side: All Clean!

Kobi was at the vet for most of the day. When we picked him up he was happy and alert. At home, we gave him some food and it all went down well. It’s now 24hrs post procedure and can say there have been no bad post-op side effects.

We’d like to thank Dr. Timi Lee and the staff at the Tribeca Soho Animal Hospital for doing a great job with Kobi. We’ll definitely be coming back for another routine dental cleaning in the future.

Fit Dogs Can Carry Their Own Poop Bags!

We recently received a great review about Earth Rated bags from a Dogsized fan & Earth Rated giveaway winner:

From Barbara Rivers of K9sOverCoffee.com:

poop bags 1

Missy & Buzz checking out Earth Rated

We were recently among the lucky winners of a box of 120 Earth Rated lavender-scented poop bags from Dogsized! Yay! I can never have enough poop bags on hand (or paw!) since I’m a professional dog walker on top of being a proud doggie mommy to my pups Missy & Buzz.

Extra Wide & Extra Strong

poop bags 2The poop bags we received are the ones with an extra wide opening and handles. They measure 13.5″ by 7″, and can easily be pulled out of their dispensing-box through an opening in the back (these particular poop bags don’t come on rolls).

Side note: The wide opening makes these poop bags a great option for cat litter cleaning duty as well! I’ve used them for that very purpose at one of my multi-pet client’s home ~ I actually picked up their pups’ poop first, then headed to their garage where the litter box is located and scooped the dirty cat litter into the same bag, no problem!

Lavender-Scented

poop bags 3As mentioned above, we won the lavender-scented poop bags ~ I’m usually not a fan of scented dog products because I’ve found that they can be overpowering. These bags, however, are a nice exception to the rule, as they aren’t overwhelming for my nose!

Green Values

The name Earth Rated already suggests the company’s dedication to our planet Earth ~ here’s how they go about it:
▪ The rolls’ cores & packaging are made of recycled material
▪ Their white-colored, vegetable based bags are 100% plastic free, meaning they will actually break down! (unlike plastic, which takes about 1000 years to decompose!!!)
▪ Any bags not passing their quality control are donated to shelters
▪ Excess production material is recycled or re-used for future production
▪ Earth Rated is a Canadian company, but has multiple warehouse locations, thus reducing their carbon footprint

Convenience of Handles

poop bagSince the arrival of the Earth Rated poop bags with HANDLES, the pups have taken on an additional job ~ that of carrying their own poop!! It’s super easy to tie their respective bags to their doggie backpacks, and it has made our walks more enjoyable for me.

Affordable Dog Waste Bag for $0.06 Per Bag!

A box of the 120 Earth Rated, lavender scented poop bags with handles retails for $6.99, translating into a cost of $0.06 per bag ~ fair price for a pawsome product!
