EzyDog – Award Winning Active Dog Products

EzyDog Cujo

The Cujo Leash

We fell in love with EzyDog when we saw their leashes. From just looking at their products, you can see that they build their dog products based on sports technology!

We also love that they incorporated zero shock technology into their leashes as we’ve all experienced that horrible jerk at the spotting of a squirrel. EzyDog also has come up with some other great leash variations from the coupler (2 dogs on one leash) to the multi-function vario.
We got the opportunity to interview EzyDog to get more of an inside look of their company and inspirations:

Tell us about EzyDog and how the company got started.

Brothers, Phil and Luke Hatcher, from Australia originally started out in the water sports industry. At the same time, John Hatcher (not related) was working for a major water-ski manufacturer in the USA. Sharing the same last name in the same small industry eventually got them introduced. Phil, Luke and John’s experience in this industry and love of dogs sparked the idea to combine the best of both worlds, which inspired the original shock absorbing leash – the Cujo.

EzyDog Neo Collar

They saw that materials from the water sports world work well for the dog market. For instance, neoprene is a very durable material that does not absorb oils so it does not get stinky like a typical nylon collar. The Cujo leash was the first product to be introduced to the pet industry and started what would eventually become EzyDog.

EzyDog officially began about 10 years ago and has developed into a highly technical, full line of dog products that focus on function, durability and unique designs. The focus has been to enhance the outdoor experience with our dogs.

Tell us more about the materials used to make EzyDog products?

We make our own webbing, which allows us to more closely monitor the consistency and quality. We end up with a webbing that is super soft and extremely strong and durable. We use materials such as Neoprene for padded comfort, easy to clean and absorbs less stink than traditional materials. We also use EVA to form to the dog’s body for truly a custom fit. These “outside the box materials” make a superior product.

What are your most popular products?

Our Chest Plate and Quick Fit Harnesses along with our shock absorbing leashes are really popular. The combination of these with your pup can truly transform your walking/running experience. Our DFD (Doggy Floatation Device) and Summit Backpack continue to be popular as well. We attribute these items popularity with the ease of use and the problem solving features these items provide.

Some people might assume your products are only for large &/or tough dogs ?

While our active look may appear to cater to the medium and larger breeds, we actually make products for all shapes and sizes of dogs. The Sparky, as well as, our Lite range of leashes, use clips and webbing widths more appropriate for the smaller dogs.

This is also true of our collars and harnesses. We even have a Micro line of Life Vests. The Sparky weighs 3.9 oz while the Cujo (40 inch) weighs 6.0 oz. We do offer our Soft Trainer Leash, Vario 4 and Vario 6 leashes, as well as, couplers available in the Lite versions. Sometimes the little guys are the hardest to control and they need our products most!

Silent Dog Tags by Twigo Pet

silent dog tag

One of our noise sensitive Dogsized fans recently told us about the Twigo Pet ID Tag, which is a silent dog tag. If you’re tired of hearing the jingle of your dog’s tags or they’re waking up your baby, this is an excellent solution and a nifty little product.

The Twigo Pet ID Tag is soft, lightweight and made out of silicone. They have some really cute designs which you can see at their website: TwigoTags.com. They’re durable, waterproof and easy to clean.

No need to engrave your contact details on this silent dog tag. You can just write it on the back, boil it and after it cools down for about 30 minutes your dog can wear it. The downside is that overtime the ink may fade, but then you can just re-do the write and boil process.

Blown Away by the Flexi Vario Leash

flexi vario

Flexi Vario

At first when I saw the Flexi Vario retractable dog leash at the Global Pet Expo, I thought – geez that looks like a large leash. Little did I know that I was soon to be wowed by this new product. This very nice lady from Flexi, Sylvie Geffrelot, took the time to show me the multiple features the Flexi Vario has. To call it just a retractable leash is a total misnomer.

Poop Bags or Treats

First of all, it comes with a holder, which can be for poop bags or convert to hold treats. The holder can be attached or unattached to the leash.

The handle has an adjustment mechanism which can change the holder hand size to be smaller or larger. A great way to get the perfect fit for you and for anyone else walking your dog.

Inserting the holder

On the side of the leash is an LED light which is also removable so you can take it off during the day and attach it at night. The light is attached via a velcro strip. When you’re not using the light, there’s a thin panel you can attach instead. The LED light has a white front light so you and your dog can easily see the path in front of you. There is also a red back light which you can choose to turn on to make you more noticeable in the dark which can be helpful when crossing the street or in areas with lots of cars. The lights can be switched on and off individually.

Easy belt change

It comes in cord or tape leashes and has a multi-belt linking system so you can attach a soft stop belt or a duo belt (great for walking two dogs at a time) or an LED flash belt. It’s very easy to switch the various belts.

To top it all off, this leash is quite light in weight. I thought it felt much lighter than expected. It also comes in a variety of colors and sizes. So if you’re looking for a multifunctional dog leash, this is ideal.flexi vario

If you’re wondering, we were not paid for this review (we’re not paid for any reviews). We just think this is a cool new innovative product. The Flexi Vario is not yet available in the U.S. and is scheduled to be launched here in June 2014. We’ll keep you posted when/where you can buy it.
